Brigadier General Lynn M. Heng

Brigadier General Lynn M. Heng is the Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army South, (Sixth Army), headquartered at Fort Sam Houston. U.S. Army South is the Theater Army and Army Service Component Command to U.S. Southern Command.

Brigadier General Heng’s career began in 1986 as an enlisted 19D Cavalry Scout in Headquarters Troop, 1-167th Cavalry Squadron, Nebraska Army National Guard. He later became commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1990.

In August of 1990 he attended the Armor Officer Basic Course to be followed immediately by Initial Entry Rotary Wing School. After completing IERW in 1991 he was assigned to the 1-167th Cavalry Squadron where he served as a Scout and Attack Platoon Leader. In 1993 he was assigned to the 24th Medical Company (AA) serving as an FSMT Leader and Operations Platoon Leader and participated in Operation JOINT FORGE in Bosnia in 1999 and in Egypt in 2001 supporting Operation BRIGHT STAR.

Following graduation from the Medical Service Corps Officer Advance Course he commanded the 24th Medical Company and participated in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Kosovo in 2003-2004. He then served as the S2/3 for the 110th Medical Evacuation Battalion.

Following completion of Command and General Staff College in 2006 he branch transferred to Aviation, LTC Heng then commanded the 1-376th Security & Support Aviation Battalion. In 2008 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the Executive Officer for Regional Police Advisory Command – East. From 2009 – 2010 he was assigned to Joint Forces Headquarters as the Environmental Program Manager. In 2011 he commanded Agri-business Development Team 2 and participated in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan in 2011 – 2012. COL Heng was then assigned as the State Army Aviation Officer from 2012 – 2015. In 2015 - 2016 COL Heng commanded the 92nd Troop Command.

Following completion of Air War College in 2017 COL Heng was assigned as the Director of Aviation and Safety until being promoted to Brigadier General in 2019. He served as the Land Component Commander from 2019 – 2022 and currently serves as the Assistant Adjutant General and is dual-hatted as the Deputy Commanding General for U.S. Army South.

Brigadier General Heng wears the Master Army Aviator badge.

In his civilian occupation, he serves as a Global Operations Facilitator in the STRATCOM J3, Offutt Air Force Base, Bellevue, Nebraska and as an Adjunct Instructor for Peru State College.
