U.S. Army South Inspector General
The U.S. Army South Inspector General (IG) mission is to extend the eyes, ears, voice, and conscience of the Commander. Conduct thorough, objective, and impartial inspections, assessments, and investigations. Provide assistance to all Service Members, Families, Civilians, and Retirees to assist in resolving their issues or concerns. Advise, assist, and train leaders to maintain Army values, readiness, and effectiveness in the promotion of well-being, good order, and discipline.
Role and Functions of Inspector General
The roles of U.S. Army South Inspector General are:
- Serve as fair and impartial fact finders.
- Ensure personnel receive due process.
- Deal strictly in facts.
- Help the chain of command "do the right thing" through recommendations and advice.
- Maintain complainants' confidentiality.
The functions of U.S. Army South Inspector General are:
- IGs base their fact-finding activities upon standards such as laws, DoD directives, Army regulations, policies, and the UCMJ.
- Confidentiality -- Safeguarding identities and the nature of complaint – Never guaranteed.
- IG records are protected and governed by specific rules.
- IG records are redacted for all attribution
