MG Brey Hopkins is originally from Mobile, Alabama and commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduation from The Citadel in 1989. From 1989 – 1999, MG Hopkins served on active duty with both the 82d Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Separating from active service in 1999, MG Hopkins entered corporate executive management where he served as President and Vice-President of Operations for organizations in the transportation, logistics and the energy sector.
In 2008, Brey re-entered military service with the Colorado Army National Guard. He commanded 1-157 Infantry Regiment in Colorado and the 86th IBCT (MTN) out of Vermont.
Major overseas deployments include OPERATION DESERT SHIELD / STORM and OPERATION JOINT GUARDIAN in Kosovo.
Previous General Officer assignments include service as the Deputy G357 at U.S. Army Forces Command and G357 for the Army National Guard.
MG Hopkins holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Webster’s University and a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Studies from the Air War College.
Major General Hopkins’ awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Mountain Warfare Badge, Air Assault Badge and Army Staff Identification Badge.
MG Hopkins is married to the former Christy Whitney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and both are the proud parents of a daughter, Virginia Grace Hopkins (Gracie), a sophomore at Samford University in Birmingham, AL.
