COL Peter Lawrence Rangel joined the U.S. Army as a 96B Intelligence Analyst in 1996 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant through the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA, 2001.

COL Rangel’s key assignments include ARSOUTH Chief of Staff, Director Army Capabilities Manager – Foundation, U.S. Army Futures Command, U.S. Army War College Fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), BN CDR 310th Military Intelligence Battalion, Army Counterintelligence Command, Assistant Army and Cyber Counterintelligence Coordinating Authority for U.S European Command J2X, Stuttgart, Germany; ACE Chief for U.S. Army Africa, Wiesbaden, Germany; CI/HUMINT Planner for U.S. Army Europe Wiesbaden, Germany; BN S3, 201st MI BN Joint Debriefing and Interrogation Center, Ft. Sam Houston, TX; BN Executive Officer, 201st MI BN, Ft. Sam, TX; Company Commander Bravo Company, 308th MI BN, Redstone Arsenal, AL; BN S4, 308th MI BN, Ft. Meade, MD; BN S2, 519th Military Police (MP) BN, Ft. Polk, LA.

His deployments include 2012-2013 as the J3 Operations Officer for the 201st MI BN JDIC Theater Intelligence Group at Camp Sabula-Harrison/Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan; 2008-2009 as a Military Transition Team Chief and Joint Intelligence Officer J2 for ARSIC-E in Gardez, Afghanistan; 2003-2004 as the BN S2 for the 519th MP BN, 18th MP BDE in Baghdad, Iraq.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (2 OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal (Silver OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Military Volunteer Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon (5th award), the NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal and the Combat Action Badge. He is also a recipient of the Military Intelligence Knowlton Award.
COL Rangel received his Bachelor of Arts in History from St. Edward’s University, Austin, TX, in 1994 and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University in 2014. His military education includes the Military Intelligence Officer Basic, Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course, Counterintelligence Officers Course, Command and General Staff College, the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, and an Army War College Fellow at MIT’s Security Studies Program. COL Rangel is married to the former Melissa Bonilla of San Antonio, TX. They have two children, Matthew, a 1LT in the US Army, and Mia, a Senior at Texas State University.
