Brigadier General Monie R. Ulis serves as the U.S. Army South Deputy Commanding General and Deputy Adjutant General – Army at Camp Mabry. As the Deputy Adjutant General – Army, he assists the Adjutant General is exercising and executing command responsibilities and is the principal adviser on all Army matters. The Deputy Adjutant General – Army also works with the Chief of the Joint Staff to prepare the state for federal or state emergencies, to include manmade or natural disasters, and federal military mobilizations.
General Ulis enlisted in the active Army in 1985 and joined the Texas National Guard in 1989. He commissioned through the State Officer Candidate School program as an Infantry officer in 1992. General Ulis received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from the University of the State of New York, a Master of Science in Information Technology from Touro University and was awarded a Master of National Security Strategy from the National War College in Washington D.C. Brigadier General Ulis has served in a variety of assignments to include, Deputy G1, Army National Guard Readiness Center; Commander, 136th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade; and Assistant Deputy, Military Personnel Policy for the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs. General Ulis is Dual Status Commander qualified and previously served as Commander, Operation Lone Star, in charge of securing the Southwest Border. Prior to his current assignment, General Ulis served as Director, Joint Staff for the Texas National Guard.
