General-de-Brigada Alcides V. Faria, Jr

GDB Alcides V. Faria, Jr joined the Army in 1985 as a Cadet and was commissioned in 1988 from Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras. He has served as a career Cavalry Officer with assignments as a Mechanized Cavalry Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader and S1 for 1st Mechanized Cavalry Squadron, 5th Armored Cavalry Brigade, Valença, RJ. This was followed by two years with 1st Battalion, Army Aviation Command, Taubaté, SP, where he served as the Battalion S‐3 and a Company Commander. After command, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, Army Aviation Command, for three years, as S2 and S4. He deployed to Cyprus for 6 months with the Argentinean Task Force, United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), as the BN A-S3. Upon his promotion to Major, he became an Instructor at the Captains’ Career Advanced School.

GDB Alcides served as G3 of the Planalto Military Command (Division Level) Brasilia, DF. On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, he was assigned to the Argentinean Peacekeeping Training Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for 2 years. Following that assignment, he commanded the Aviation Training Center and after served at the Army Aviation Material Directorate, as Chief Supply Officer. After attending the War College at Chile in 2014, GDB Alcides served as the Army PIO, at the Brazilian Army Public Information Center, with a one-year assignment to Guinea-Bissau, as Senior Military Advisor to Special Representative of the Secretary-General at the United Nations Integrated Peace Building Office at Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS). Most recently he commanded the 5th Armored Cavalry Brigade in Ponta Grossa, PR. GDB Alcides is currently assigned as the Deputy Commanding General for Interoperability for ARSOUTH at Fort Sam Houston, TX.

GDB Alcides holds a Master's degree from Brazilian Army War College and Post-Graduated in International Humanitarian Law from the Argentinean Catholic University. His hobbies include reading, traveling and playing tennis.

His military awards include the Military Merit Order Medal, Victory Medal, Military Gold Medal for 30 years of Service, Pacifier Medal, Marshal Trompowsky Medal, Marshall Hermes Medal, UN Special Services Medal – UNIOGBIS – Guinea Bissau, UN – UNFICYP (Cyprus) Medal and Command Badge.
